Goal Setting for 2010

So here are some easy steps to how you can plan yourself into the new year!

Step 1: Get in touch with your true passion in life; make sure you are doing what you love and what means the most to you. Once you are doing this your motivation will be very high to move forwards.

Step 2: Start with the end in mind. Think about where you ultimately want to be in say 5 or 10 years time, what’s the BIG plan? Write 3 or 4 pages of how your life will be in the future and get really clear about what it is you want (write in present tense as if you have already achieved it).

Step 3: Next write down all the things you really want to achieve this year and select the top 10 that mean the most to you (making sure they fit in with your future vision of course).

Step 4: Write each goal out making sure it is spesific, consise, short and to the point. Write it in the present tense as if you have already achieved it, and put a date in there of when you will achieve it.

Step 5: Get into action. For each goal write a list of everything you can think of that you would need to do to take you from where you are today, to achieving that goal. (This is best done on a spreadsheet where you can move the lines around).

Step 6: Prioritise - put each list in order of what you will need to do first. (For example if your goal is to have a new website launched in July – then you might need to: find a designer/s, get quotes, do some planning, write the content, hand over the content to the designer, proof, etc. Now you might really enjoy writing the content, but by the time you’ve spent a few weeks doing this, then you look for a designer and they are all booked up, you have not been forward thinking, or using your time effectively).

Step 7: Commit to your plan and put your actions into your diary or planning system, stating when you will achieve each small step.

Step 8: Use visualisation techniques to keep you connected and motivated towards your goals.

Step 9: Get support - find someone to keep you accountable, either a professional (coach, mentor etc) or a work colleague. Once you have told people about your goals, then can help you keep on top on each small step you take.

Step 10: Celebrate each step. It’s all too easy to forget this part! It is so important to celebrate each step that you take on your journey in life, this will really help you to stay focused and motivated.

So, I hope you’ve found this useful! Get going and plan this to be the best year ever!! Don't forget if you would like my Free E-book on the same title with much more detail then go to the home page of the website:

Review of 2009

I thought I'd include this as a reminder of my last newsletter subject. This is such an important thing to do in terms of your learning, growing and of course improving things for 2010!!

So, the thoughts I gave you were:

What were all the successes you had?
What were the high-lights?
What did you do really well?
What did you learn?
What will you do differently next year?

When I was doing this I went through this one bit at a time, really considering each ares, what were all the successes I had? Then narrowed it down to the highlights - exciting stuff... then acknowledged myself what I did really well. The next question sometimes proves harder to get the answers to, that's o.k. just allow some time to let them come. Then write down everything that comes into your mind.

And last, but not least - what will you do differently this year? Without this question it will be difficult to move yourself forwards. Make a list of about 5 core things you commit to doing differently and plan how you will go about accomplishing them.

And now of course celebrate all those successes!!!

Get Positive!

How to bring Positivity into your life

• Are you a glass half empty, or a glass half full person?
• Do you see the potential in every situation, or just the negative?
• Do you focus on what you have achieved, or what you haven’t?

• How do you change things if you have discovered you are a glass half empty person? How can you radically change things for your future? Well committing to start right now this minute, is the best way forwards.
• And if you do, how might this affect what you are doing?

• Does it really make a difference if you are a positive or negative person?

• A person who always sees the negative in the situation, could be seen to ‘be looking out for’, or ‘protecting’ or ‘being aware of the potential danger’ in any situation. Is it a matter of perception?

• But if what you focus on is what you get; how would this actually help?

• What could happen if you focused on the positive in every situation? Might you just get the great future you want?

So how can you make these changes?

5 Tips to Getting Positivity in your life:

1. Gratitude – being grateful every day for the things you do have. If you’ve seen The Secret, then you will know about the Gratitude rock story, and if you haven’t I’d recommend getting on Amazon and ordering it!
2. Language – this is so important, change your vocabulary and increase the use of positive words.
3. Meaning – look for the opposite meaning in all ‘negative’ events. I.e. you lose your job; isn’t it great you now have the opportunity to start a new career. If it’s the perfect job you lost; well isn’t it great you now have the chance to widen your knowledge and learn new skills which will make you an expert in more than one field. If you have huge obstacles in your way, get excited because this could mean by overcoming them you are closer to achieving your goals. Obstacles indicate movement; so no challenges could mean you are not moving forwards! Help others to so the same (although this can prove difficult).
4. Direction – looking forwards not backwards. What plans do you have for your life, how many goals have you set; where are you planning on being in 5 years’ time? Focus on where you want and plan to be with your life. Start with today and work forwards. If you spend your life looking over your shoulder, will you get where you want to be?
5. Inspiration – surround yourself by inspiring books, CD’s, articles and mix with like-minded people. Your immediate environment will determine you current experience of life.

Social Networking

I know this has been quite the ‘buzz’ subject over the past few months, some people ascribing enthusiastically and others somewhat hesitant to say the least!

I would like to challenge you now, if you haven’t already, to really step up here and join in! You could be in danger of having fun, connecting with great new people and getting customers!!

Here are some questions for you:
  • Do you really want to move your business forwards?
  • Are you willing to learn new skills?
  • How important is it for you to build new relationships and find new customers?

Surely, it’s therefore very important for us to keep up with the times and if we don’t know how to do it, find out!! There are plenty of people out there you can talk to, me for a start!

Here are some great advantages to social networking:

  • Most of it is FREE!
  • You don’t need to leave the office!
  • You can connect with people all over the world, not just your local area!
  • Once mastered it can take up as little at 10/15 mins per day!
  • It’s fun!

So what is not to like?

O.K. so the next step to ask yourself is:

  • What do I join and how many do I sign up for?
  • What do I want to get out of this?
  • How long each day am I prepared to get involved?

The last one is very important, for this to work you have to maintain contact regularly. You are building trust with your followers, credibility, and ultimately friendships. Because as we know people buy people; go ahead and get involved now!

I am in the process of shooting some short videos which back this up and start giving you some ideas how to get started. And I will let you know as soon as they are live...!

Remember small steps but like the tortoise you will build a great following if you just do a little bit every day.

Watch out for more videos on all subject of running your business, especially if you are a new business or you work from home!!

Good luck & have fun!

Overwhelm - Tips for getting you back on track!

This is the time when you find distractions easy to follow, avoid tackling mounting paperwork and often manifest an illness in order to give your body/mind a break!

Yes you've got it - the Overwhelm Syndrome...

Well here are some simple steps to help you get yourself back on track:

1. Get yourself a giant mug of tea and a bottle of water.
2. Turn off all phones, email alerts etc...
3. Get a large sheet of paper and divide it into 3 areas: Personal - Finance - Business (or whatever areas are appropriate for you).
4. Write down EVERYTHING you can think of that needs attention in these areas.
5. Now re-write them up in priority order (this can be uncomfortable some-times, be honest)
6. Work out roughly how long each task is going to take and write this beside it.
7. Allocate space & time in your diary/planner to get these done 9only the really IMPORTANT ones).

TIME:
Here's the thing with time - there are the same 24 hours available for everybody. And we will always fit in what's important for us no matter what. So work out what is really important for you and commit to doing it! Learn to let unimportant things go.

SPACE:
If the area that you are working in is full of clutter and confusion then this is going to impact your working performance, so spend however long it takes to CLEAR OUT the clutter! This will let the energy flow back into your life, back into your work and back into any other areas that you clear. (rule: if you haven't used it for 1 year get rid of it!).

Take a look at your desk - it should be clear except for the project you are currently working on; this will enable you to focus on one thing at a time and be more effective.

Lastly, you will have to learn to say 'NO' - when too much work comes in, when people ask you to do things you just don't have the time to do, or when anything comes your way that doesn't match what want to be doing...

Final word - if you work from home then emails, social networking and phone-calls can eat one third of your day - imagine how you could be spending that time...

If you would like my TIME SHEET to find out where you are spending your time then please email me on: sophie@aleptis.co.uk

More details on each area to come...

Back from Summer Break

So being in the wonderful position of running my own business meant that I could take all of August off to rest, recuperate and catch up with friends both here and abroad - wonderful!

If you would like to have that dream work/life balance then you can - I have re-developed, extended and improved my Workshop on 'How to be Successful Working from Home' which is now running as a day and a half Workshop - see my Training - Workshops page.

Now back in the thick of marketing my new Free Talks, Workshop and of course 4 Coaching Programs I am certainly using all my time management, organisation and focus skills.

More to come...
