Goal Setting for 2010
So here are some easy steps to how you can plan yourself into the new year!
Step 1: Get in touch with your true passion in life; make sure you are doing what you love and what means the most to you. Once you are doing this your motivation will be very high to move forwards.
Step 2: Start with the end in mind. Think about where you ultimately want to be in say 5 or 10 years time, what’s the BIG plan? Write 3 or 4 pages of how your life will be in the future and get really clear about what it is you want (write in present tense as if you have already achieved it).
Step 3: Next write down all the things you really want to achieve this year and select the top 10 that mean the most to you (making sure they fit in with your future vision of course).
Step 4: Write each goal out making sure it is spesific, consise, short and to the point. Write it in the present tense as if you have already achieved it, and put a date in there of when you will achieve it.
Step 5: Get into action. For each goal write a list of everything you can think of that you would need to do to take you from where you are today, to achieving that goal. (This is best done on a spreadsheet where you can move the lines around).
Step 6: Prioritise - put each list in order of what you will need to do first. (For example if your goal is to have a new website launched in July – then you might need to: find a designer/s, get quotes, do some planning, write the content, hand over the content to the designer, proof, etc. Now you might really enjoy writing the content, but by the time you’ve spent a few weeks doing this, then you look for a designer and they are all booked up, you have not been forward thinking, or using your time effectively).
Step 7: Commit to your plan and put your actions into your diary or planning system, stating when you will achieve each small step.
Step 8: Use visualisation techniques to keep you connected and motivated towards your goals.
Step 9: Get support - find someone to keep you accountable, either a professional (coach, mentor etc) or a work colleague. Once you have told people about your goals, then can help you keep on top on each small step you take.
Step 10: Celebrate each step. It’s all too easy to forget this part! It is so important to celebrate each step that you take on your journey in life, this will really help you to stay focused and motivated.
So, I hope you’ve found this useful! Get going and plan this to be the best year ever!! Don't forget if you would like my Free E-book on the same title with much more detail then go to the home page of the website:
