Overwhelm - Tips for getting you back on track!

This is the time when you find distractions easy to follow, avoid tackling mounting paperwork and often manifest an illness in order to give your body/mind a break!

Yes you've got it - the Overwhelm Syndrome...

Well here are some simple steps to help you get yourself back on track:

1. Get yourself a giant mug of tea and a bottle of water.
2. Turn off all phones, email alerts etc...
3. Get a large sheet of paper and divide it into 3 areas: Personal - Finance - Business (or whatever areas are appropriate for you).
4. Write down EVERYTHING you can think of that needs attention in these areas.
5. Now re-write them up in priority order (this can be uncomfortable some-times, be honest)
6. Work out roughly how long each task is going to take and write this beside it.
7. Allocate space & time in your diary/planner to get these done 9only the really IMPORTANT ones).

TIME:
Here's the thing with time - there are the same 24 hours available for everybody. And we will always fit in what's important for us no matter what. So work out what is really important for you and commit to doing it! Learn to let unimportant things go.

SPACE:
If the area that you are working in is full of clutter and confusion then this is going to impact your working performance, so spend however long it takes to CLEAR OUT the clutter! This will let the energy flow back into your life, back into your work and back into any other areas that you clear. (rule: if you haven't used it for 1 year get rid of it!).

Take a look at your desk - it should be clear except for the project you are currently working on; this will enable you to focus on one thing at a time and be more effective.

Lastly, you will have to learn to say 'NO' - when too much work comes in, when people ask you to do things you just don't have the time to do, or when anything comes your way that doesn't match what want to be doing...

Final word - if you work from home then emails, social networking and phone-calls can eat one third of your day - imagine how you could be spending that time...

If you would like my TIME SHEET to find out where you are spending your time then please email me on: sophie@aleptis.co.uk

More details on each area to come...
