Working from Home in the sun

I love working from my own home; I chose this over working for a school many moons ago and guess what I have never looked back! Don't get me wrong I loved working at the school, but being the master of your own destiny is a wonderful thing!

However today even I am being tested! It is gorgeous hot sunny weather outside and try as I might I just can't see my lap-top screen at all! I have moved to the studio and it is SO hot in there I can't concentrate - to make things worse it is the second week of Wimbledon too!

So how to focus now more than ever! Well I have moved to the kitchen, still hot but a lovely view of the garden and studio - I plan to get up earlier and end sooner - this solves the heat and Wimbledon!!

What could you do in this predicament? Of course it depends what your business is exactly. But you could try some of these:

  • Get a lot done in the early mornings & evenings.
  • Buy a good fan & drink lots of water.
  • Plan ahead and leave all jobs you can do from another location till the sun hits - then go to the beach and work there!
  • Work fast in short batches, then go for walks in between.
  • Make all meetings at outdoor locations.
  • Resolve to be even more focused, work smart and have a holiday destination booked to aim towards!
  • Realise how lucky you are to work for yourself (if of course you do...)
  • Plan, Plan, Plan is the key here!

If you work for yourself you are the lucky one's right now, even if you have deadlines to meet, clients to see, meeting to hold, and products to make. Just remember you can be flexible and think how to make the best of things; look ahead if the forecast is for rain at the weekend, then love the sun now and work at the weekend.

What ever you do - have fun! Surely this is one of the reasons you work at home isn't it? If not, check out my website and book yourself some coaching - get life the way you want it!
